Passport Applications

Where to Get a Passport

The Clayton County Auditor's Office, located at 111 High Street N.E., Suite 102 in Elkader, accepts passport applications by appointment Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. If an acceptance agent is not available during this time, it will be noted on the website. If you have any questions about passports, please feel free to call the office at 563-245-1106.

Passport Books

Passport "books" are required for an international flight. The federal fee is $130 for those 16 years and older and $100 for those age 15 and under. The payment must be a check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State.

Passport Cards

Passport "cards" are also available at a reduced fee of $30 for those 16 years and older and $15 for age 15 and under. For U.S. Citizens who frequently travel across the border by land to Canada or Mexico. These cannot be used for air travel. The same application requirements apply.

Execution Fees

When applying for a new passport, an execution fee is required to be paid. The fee is $35 per applicant, no matter what the age of the applicant is.  The fee can be paid in cash or a check payable to the Clayton County Auditor. 

Expedite Your Application

If, after checking the time frames on the U.S. Department of State's website, you feel you may need to expedite your application, you will need to pay an additional fee of $60. You may also choose to consider overnight delivery.

Validity

Passport books and cards have the same validity. For applicants age 16 and older, the passport is valid for ten (10) years, and for applicants age 15 and under are valid for five (5) years.
